1."nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power"- Abraham Lincoln I like this one because it states that anyone can have power, you just have to give him the power to do it.
This needs to be related to blue eyes brown eyes. I chose this statement because it’s a very good statement for the activity we are doing right now and it shows that you give someone power to see what their character is and if they are using it for good or evil. In the documentary the teacher gave the kids with blue eyes more power than the brown eyes and they teased the brown eyed kids. So it showed the kids' characters - most of them used the power for evil.
"Knowledge is power. Power to do evil...or power to do good. Power itself is not evil. So knowledge is not evil."
This is my favorite because power and knowledge it selves are not evil; but if a person/people use it in a good way or bad bay, then it becomes into good or bad way.
Number 10. "How big is lie, if you keep saying it, became truth" ( It's not exactly, I just wrote that I could remember because I left the quotes paper in school.)
I think this quotes is really telling the truth of world, not only with the experiments with blue and brown colored eyed children. Around the world, many people believe what they want to, even its not true and that, faults is passed to the others and believed, also in the experiment when Ms Eliton, told to her class to discriminate one kind of eye colored kids the other group of eye colored one's believed it and be mean and cruel to the other group, even they know something is a bit weird, this quotes is showing how the 'Speaking' is powerful among people. So, i think its really fitting to the experiments.
The full quote is: "No matter how big the lie; repeat it often enough and the masses will regard it as the truth." by John F. Kennedy. I'm very sorry about what happened to your paper of quotes. I just wanted to help you out.
I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I'll give you 3 quotes that relate to the same overall theme as in the documentary - The Eye of the Storm. Many people have power, but use it in the wrong way, such as teasing others, bullying others and mocking them of their race. In essence, these powerful people have the freedom once they have power. It's not about discriminating others, nor having bigger power over others. It's really about equality. It's really about being unique. And most importantly, it's about BEING YOURSELF.
1. "Be who you are and say who you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Bernard M. Baruch (often attributed to Dr. Seuss)
Description: It does not matter what others think of you. What matters is what you think of yourself. For example, people who bully and tease others are individuals with low self-esteem and they believe that bullying others give them some sense of power, little do they know.
2. "Always be a first rate version of yourself and not a second-rate version of someone else." - Judy Garland
Description: Always make sure you respect yourself for who you currently are, not to try to duplicate feelings and emotions from others.
3. "You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them." - Maya Angelou, Letter to My Daughter
Description: No matter what life takes us through, the events may not be controlled by one, but can be shrunken down by the person.

ReplyDeleteI like this one because it states that anyone can have power, you just have to give him the power to do it.
It has to do with the story because the teacher gave a certain eye colour more power which made them better at work.
Delete"recognizing power in another does not diminish your own"
ReplyDeleteReason:cause the experiment actually matches the quote that if you know another power it doesn't destroy yours and it is a beautiful quote
